GreenFields Football Turf in Denmark

Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune is a municipality near Copenhagen where two clubs are active: Virum and 1st division team Lyngby Boldklub. At Lyngby Boldklub Danish internationals Klaus Berggreen, Henrik Larsen, Miklos Molnar and Bent Christensen, current internationals Dennis Rommedahl and Niclas Jensen, and Swedish international Marcus Allbäck used to play. The new synthetic turf pitch was constructed with the use of GreenFields’ V-shape system. Unlike conventional flat shaped fibres, the v-shaped fibre allows the ball to interact with the fibre as it would with a natural grass surface.

V-shape fibre is constructed very much like a natural blade of grass in that it has a V-shape spine along its length; this provides a structural memory and assists the fibre in remaining vertical. The football then has the ability to sit on top of the fibre providing not only a natural look but allows the player, when kicking the ball to gain enough leverage underneath and provide truly natural playability characteristics.

Allan Ravn, managing director of SportsConnect, said: “Synthetic turf offers a lot of advantages for the municipality of Lyngby- Taarbæk. No matter what the weather conditions are training sessions as well as games can take place the whole year through. Clubs, players and the municipality will have a great benefit.”

Allan Ravn is a Danish former professional association football player in the midfielder position, who played 235 games and won four Danish Superliga championships with Brøndby IF. He also played for Landskrona BoIS in Sweden. He played 15 games and scored one goal for the Danish under-21 national team from 1993 to 1995.
