Plainview Football Stadium Update Gets Underway

Under sunny skies and humid weather with temperatures in the mid-90s Monday afternoon, three heavy construction loading vehicles relocated layers of dirt on the football field at Plainview Stadium to a large pile located on the east end of the stadium.

Construction has been ongoing since April 24 as part of the removal of the grass field and the installation of a sports turf that has been contracted through GreenFields.

Plainview High School athletic director David Gilliam said in a phone interview with The Ardmoreite on Tuesday afternoon about 50 percent of the project will be complete next week. At that time, concrete work around the curves of the track should begin.

“They’re working hard, staying after it,” he said. “I still think we’re on track to be ready for the first football game. I can’t wait to see the finished product. It will be completely different. I would say it will be one of the best stadiums in the area, may in at least 3A. We’re excited about it.”

Gilliam remains confident the project will be completed in time for Plainview’s season opener on Aug. 26 against Broken Bow and a preseason scrimmage against Millwood on Aug. 19.
